Founded in 1976, the Highland Restoration formed to preserve the historic neighborhood of homes from the late-1890's to mid-1900's. The houses along Highland and Fairfield represent the Neo-classic, English Revival, Mediterranean and Bungalow style of architecture. Magnificent old trees and efforts of the beautification projects surround them. Outside of the New Orleans area, this section of restored housing is the largest preservation area in the state. Annual home tours are scheduled at special times throughout the year including a wonderful pageantry at Christmas.
North Shreveport, once an industrial hub, is expanding to include retail and residential developments. I-220 interstate access makes travel to and from the area a snap. Area neighborhoods in north Shreveport vary from modest to upper-income. One may find homes bordered by lush golf courses or prairies of natural land. One can also find true country living in these area neighborhoods with ample land for farm animals and agricultural works. The outlying towns and villages of Blanchard, Oil City, Vivian and Mooringsport abut this growing area of the city.
Aside the tremendous growth in Bossier City, Southeast Shreveport has seen widespread commercial and residential progress, making it the fastest growing area in town. This area is located near the college campus of LSUS and includes the middle-income neighborhoods of Pepper Tree, Apple Tree, Jackson Square and Towne South. The upper-income developments of the Ellerbe Road area including Acadiana Place, Long Lake and Southern Trace are adding greatly to the property value. It is easily accessible by the main thoroughfares of Youree Drive and Bert Kouns Industrial Loop as well as Ellerbe Rd. and I-49.
This central section of Shreveport is filled with quaint cottages, rambling bungalows and elegant mansions dating back to the early 1900's. Many of these stately structures have been restored and others converted to multi-unit dwellings. Line and Fairfield Avenues run through the neighborhoods providing easy access to the central downtown business district, the city's bed and breakfast inns, Centenary College campus and Mall St. Vincent.
Developed primarily in the mid-70's, Southwest Shreveport represents traditional suburban living. The area includes Southern Hills, Summer Grove, Briarcliff, the Colquitt Road area, Southport Country, Chasewood and Burgundy Oaks. These middle-to-upper income households are traditional ranch-style brick homes, convenient to neighborhood schools, hospitals and shopping centers. This area also encompasses large industries such as General Electric and General Motors, as well as the Shreveport Regional Airport. Keithville, Stonewall and Greenwood are among some of the smaller towns that are just minutes away from the southwest Shreveport area.
West Shreveport includes the areas of Pines Road and Cross Lake. Once rural areas, these communities have seen tremendous growth and have become very desirable. Nestled on the banks of Cross Lake, our city's reservoir, are waterfront homes that are unique and secluded, yet easy to reach, as well as luxury waterfront town homes. The heavily wooded Pines Road area stretching from Cross Lake to south of the Shreveport Regional Airport offers a wide variety of homes in every price range. Watertown USA is located in this family-oriented area.
Surrounded by the more suburban areas of the city, Central Shreveport contains many of the older, more modest neighborhoods in town. Some of these include Sunset Acres, Morningside, Ingleside, Queensborough and Airport Park. Some of the older industrial areas are also located here and include the Penzoil refinery as well as the Libbey Glass manufacturing plant.
Consider the renaissance of Downtown Shreveport. With the development of Harrah's and Hollywood Casinos, the downtown area has come alive like never before. Warehouses are being converted into luxury lofts, major retail and restaurants are moving in and history is being preserved with the greatest of care. Downtown is not only the financial hub, but a safe, family wonderland with the advent of the Sci-Port Discovery Center, IMAX Theater, Festival Plaza and miles of Riverfront Parks. Broadmoor, Shreve Island and Anderson Island were developed in the 1950s and 1960s to provide affordable middle income housing to a growing post-war population. Most of these homes have been greatly remodeled offering up-to-date living in a convenient location. Homes in this area are favorites for first-time home buyers because they offer charm, ample lots and are in excellent school districts. University Terrace has become red-hot with the development of national retailers, major hospitals, state-of-the-art fitness centers and a variety of restaurants nearby. Homes here tend to be larger and are perfect for larger families.

Just over the Red River, lies the fastest growing area in Louisiana. Once just reserved for the residential accommodations and needs of Barksdale Air Force Base residents, north and south Bossier City are committed to bettering the community through entertainment districts, as well as diversified residential growth. Bossier City is scattered with communities ranging from modest housing to luxury homes; Bellaire, Shady Grove, Sun City, Golden Meadows, Carriage Oaks, Greenacres Place, Victorian Pointe Plantation Trace to Minden, Haughton, Stonebridge, Benton and Cypress Lake Area.
Benton is a small village located about 12 miles North of Bossier City and 15 miles Northeast of Shreveport. Benton is the county seat for Bossier Parish. Many people who work in Bossier City live in Benton. Benton has many new housing developments and continues to grow and be a nice area to live in.
Haughton is a small town located just 12 miles East of Bossier City and 18 miles East of Shreveport on highway 80. Haughton's location makes it perfect for people who work in Bossier City or Minden or at Barksdale Air Force Base and want to live in a country atmosphere without having a long commute.
Blanchard is located approximately 10 miles North West of Shreveport, in Caddo Parish. The community of Blanchard officially came into existence in 1896 and was incorporated in 1961 after governor Jimmie Davis proclaimed one square mile as the village of Blanchard. Even though the village of Blanchard is small, the area generally referred to as Blanchard includes a large area North and West of the village. Blanchard is approximately 12 miles from the Shreveport Regional Airport, medical facilities, colleges and shopping in Shreveport-Bossier City. If you are looking for a rural setting or an up-scale subdivision, both can be found in the Blanchard area.
Keithville is a small community located just 6 miles Southwest of Shreveport in Caddo Parish, close enough for a short commute to work or for shopping. Many people prefer to live in this nice, quiet setting.
Stonewall is a small community located just South of Caddo Parish in N. DeSoto Parish. It only takes about 15 minutes to drive to Shreveport making Stonewall a good location to live in.
